Oct 31st, 2013 | By | Category: General Comments
*****Editor's note: Here's the latest post by Jake Huska, who is a college student working on his trading game.***** With earnings right near their peak, there have been many opportunities for the intraday trader. Earnings season will start to wind down in the next two weeks, so enjoy the increased volatility in individual stocks while it lasts. In this post I will share three recent intraday trades of mine. I don’t want to make this post too long, so I will try to include only the most essential information. I have also accompanied each explanation with at least one chart detailing my entries and exits. 1. FTNT: When I was Read more [...]

The PlayBook Inspires This Canadian Trader

Oct 30th, 2013 | By | Category: General Comments
Hi Mike, (I am) a discretionary trader from Montreal, Quebec. I simply wanted to take a minute and thank you for your help and for providing me with inside resources to step up my game. I have been trading for quite some time now (seven years to be exact) and have enjoyed reading so many books about trading. You can read psychology books; they're great. You can apply them and that's even better. But to live it by reading The PlayBook was for me a great experience and that's why I took the time to write this email. For real hard core traders, the passionate ones out there that just can't seem to get it right Read more [...]

The PlayBook Helping London Prop Traders

Oct 29th, 2013 | By | Category: General Comments
Recently I was asked by an SMBU Blog reader to share more of the e-mails sent from other traders who are trading different products. The reader was mostly interested in seeing how applicable my books were to these other traders and the different products they trade. When I first wrote One Good Trade I was surprised at its reach. It is such a small world today. Perhaps I should not have been surprised. Trading is trading. So here is an e-mail supporting that point as a German Bund trader was helped by reading The PlayBook, a book too many would categorize as just about short term US equities trading. I love how this trader Read more [...]

There is Nothing We Respect More Than…

Oct 27th, 2013 | By | Category: General Comments
Dear Mr. Bellafiore, Thank you for writing The Playbook! Before I continue my thanks and gratitude, I promised myself that this would not be a ‘Dear Oprah, save me letter.’ But on a serious note, it is hard to hold back my sincere appreciation for your advice and guidance in The Playbook. I am not your typical recruit. Most would say that I am under-educated; some community college, past my prime; the ripe old age of 39. I could go on but if I am lucky enough that you actually read this letter I will get to the point. Reading your book taught me a valuable lesson about myself and life, even at the age of 39. Twitter, Facebook And The New IPO Market

Oct 27th, 2013 | By | Category: Fundamental Plays, General Comments, Steven Spencer (Steve's) Blogs
$TWTR is a week away from becoming the "hottest" IPO since its much larger cousin $FB went public in May 2012. $TWTR seems intent on not having a repeat performance of the $FB IPO debacle which was a trifecta botch job by the lead underwriter Morgan Stanley, the NASDAQ stock market and the Facebook CFO. $FB went public at a time when the IPO market was still in the midst of a multi-decade decline and other publicly traded social media stocks had been taken to the woodshed. To say conditions were less than ideal to support a huge market valuation in an internet social media play with an enormous "float" would be an understatement. Read more [...]
