A News Pattern Trade: Full Year Beat or Miss

Feb 4th, 2014 | By | Category: General Comments
I am a pattern trader. Technical pattern trader. Tape pattern trader. News pattern trader. Whatever the pattern that makes sense to my trading brain, my risk preferences and trading sweet spot that gives me an edge in the market. For the patterns that make the most sense to me I build a PlayBook. One play in my PlayBook is the Full Year News Beat or Miss Trend Trade, another is the Full Year News Beat or Miss Reversal Trade, and then the Full Year News Beat Scalp Trade. One of the news patterns that I like most for short-term trading is the Full Year miss or beat on guidance. Below is a compilation coming into the Open on Read more [...]

Lessons from an Aspiring Moldova Trader

Jan 26th, 2014 | By | Category: General Comments
It is always so interesting and exciting to me to receive notes from aspiring traders all over the world. As much as we complain and carp about our markets, they are still the best in the world. Those worldwide want access to our trading opportunity. It reminds me of Churchill's famous quote: "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried." We might say, "Our markets are the worst, save for all the other markets." There is much to learn from this note below. I won't discuss what that is and will instead let you enjoy the learning nuggets. Dear Sir, I have just finished Read more [...]

“Best Stock Trading Book I Have Read, Easily”

Jan 18th, 2014 | By | Category: General Comments, Mike Bellafiore's (Bella's) Blogs, Trader Development
E. Ottens recently wrote a glowing review of The PlayBook for Amazon. We thought you would like to see it: The second-best was Bellafiore's first book, One Good Trade. I've worked at a prop firm for a couple of years and have been consistently profitable for the last nine months. I would advise anyone considering this as a career to get these books. If you have to get one of the two, get this one, The Playbook. I like the overall philosophy and I like the specific details. I went through weeks of training at my company—which was great—it was stuff not in the other dozens of trading books I'd read, but I would have loved to Read more [...]

Should You Develop Process AND Performance Goals for 2014?

Dec 10th, 2013 | By | Category: General Comments
Hello Mike, I hope you have had a happy holiday and great end of the year since last time I saw you in Phoenix earlier this year. I have been working on creating 2014 goals for my portfolio but I ran into a problem that maybe you can advise on. The main goals consist of having certain % returns or improving my winning-to-losing trades ratio from last year. The problem I have is I don't know how to improve my results, i.e., I will have gains on 50% of my trades by doing X. What is the X? Or is it just keep reading and studying as much as you can? My main goal is to improve my portfolio and stock picking every year Read more [...]
