Why I didn’t trade today

Sep 23rd, 2016 | By | Category: General Comments
I didn't trade this morning.  I had ever intention to do so when I left the office last night.  I like the opportunity in FB TWTR SRPT SPY IWM for today's trading session.  So this was not a decision of a lack of trading opportunity.  I, personally, was not in an optimal state to trade.  And therefor, I benched myself. First, for those of you who have children, you might empathize with this next anecdote.  Three times last night, while in a dead sleep, my son approached my bed, leaned directly into my right ear and said, "DAD.........".  There were different iterations of what followed after DAD!, but each awoke me Read more [...]

Our new class started part I of their training this week, with the SMB Foundation. Some say, "The only way to learn how to trade is trade." Here is some evidence contrary to that position. One trainee with past trading experience sent me his notes, without solicitation, as to what he learned on Day 1 of our training program.  He participated in live classroom instruction, demo trading, interaction with traders on the desk, the archived Foundation training course, and access to our trading tools.  Here is what he learned: Get better every day Respect the markets Ask questions Only Read more [...]

An experienced and successful trader is starting with our desk, powered by Kershner Trading Group, next month. He is one of the more diligent traders you could meet. I have compared him to Tim Tebow in One Good Trade for work ethic. He just powered through One Good Trade and The PlayBook to improve his trading game and better prepare to trade on our desk. As is his way, he sent me 40 rules he highlighted from reading The PlayBook.  I thought I would share this experienced, successful trader's lessons from this trading book with you:   You are only as good as the stocks you trade Make one good trade then Read more [...]

Sep 10th, 2015 | By | Category: 30 Trading Habits in 30 Days
Over the next month I will offer a peak into the highly competitive world of  proprietary trading to give readers a taste of the daily work of a professional trader.  I will share 30 trading habits in 30 days.  My hope is that this will give you some ideas on habits to add to your trading. Before we begin let me clear up a few points.  What is a proprietary trading firm?  At our firm, we back all traders with firm capital.  It is not uncommon for a high performing trader to be provided with a trading account of over 10 million in buying power.  We split trading profits with the profitable traders and take 100 percent Read more [...]

At SMBU we believe those with a passion for trading ought to start trading in college. We created the SMB College Training Program run by Iceman from The PlayBook for this very reason. Jake is a passionate college trader trying to create a track record while in school to land a spot on a prop trading desk. He will write a weekly blog about his trader learning experience. You can e-mail him at [email protected] ---- This post was written on August 23, 2013. If you have developed a clear set of rules (entry signal, exit signal, risk management, money management, etc.) that you feel comfortable with, then you should not hesitate Read more [...]

This Trader is Ready to Trade Live

Bella,  I am a huge fan of One Good Trade. Currently, I am wrapping up The Playbook. My friend and mentor put me onto One Good Trade after I had expressed interest several months ago in trading, and I have fallen in love with the profession. My desire is to become an intraday trader, but I want to go about it the correct way. I have been trying to take each lesson from each of your students and other mentees to heart and apply them to myself. I'm a former college football player, and I am now in my second year as a college coach. I must admit I that I probably broke some copyright laws because our linebacker motto is "One Good Read more [...]
