Hey Mike,

Loved your podcast on chat with traders, huge fan of yours for many years. I was listening to another podcast, and they said “turn off you pNL when trading”. When writing electrical proposals and performing work I am 100% emotionless, never think of money, and never get greedy with customers. Flip to trading, and it’s a different guy. How do you turn off pNL, stay in the zone, and keep the greed thoughts at bay?

@mikebellafiore

Why are you trading? Are you trading to make money? Are you trying to prove someone wrong? Are you trying to prove something to yourself? Are you trying to escape a job you hate?

Let me share with you my observation of top traders. The best traders trade2grow.

Even better, let me share a concrete example from our trading desk. This weekend an email went out to our traders encouraging monthly goals. One email I sent offered some ideas for growth for a senior trader. He had posted north of 200k this month.

When he was posting 4K months 5 years ago, I sent him the same emails. 5 years later, 4K is now 200k for the month.

And this trader can do many things to improve. I can think of 8 things he could start working on that would improve his trading. I am sure he would agree with many of them. And his monthly goals for February will be filled with plans to grow, even at his trading level.

So if this senior trader has focused on growth for the past five years and gotten to where he is because of it, then shouldn’t you literally cover your PnL and focus on improving each day?

Again, the best traders trade2grow.
