I hope you\u2019ve had a great weekend! As always, I look forward to sharing several of my top ideas and bigger-picture ideas for the week ahead, including thoughts on entries and exits.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I mentioned in my most recent Inside Access<\/a> meeting, barring any major headlines or escalations in the Middle East, I\u2019ll continue to focus on consolidation breakout opportunities, with the QQQ nearing its all-time high. Outside that focus, I’m also allocating some attention to momo trading in in-play small-caps, which have been seeing decent flows lately.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Consolidation Breakout in MSFT<\/b>: It just about broke out on Friday, but it still needs\u00a0to prove itself by clearing its multi-month range and closing convincingly above resistance. Overall, the tight coil, converging short-term SMAs, and Friday’s strength were reasons to go long for me. I\u2019m long from Friday, and traded around a core, but for further risk, I\u2019d want to see follow-through above Friday\u2019s high and some notable relative strength in the name.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SKHY<\/b> – Fantastic bull flag developing in SKHY, with the 10-day SMA now acting as support and 197 and 200 as possible trigger spots and areas that it needs to clear for the breakout. I\u2019ll keep a close eye on this for a momentum intraday long opportunity, while maintaining a core for a swing long if it closes favorably and breaks out intraday. As I mentioned in my recent IA meeting, if multiple timeframes align and it sets up an intraday breakout across several timeframes, I\u2019ll often look to take advantage of it with both an intraday position to capitalize on the initial momentum and a swing position for bigger-picture follow-through.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Important Note to Make: If trading\/building bigger positions in memory-related names, MU reports earnings on Wednesday, Sep. 30, after the close.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

QQQ \/ XLK<\/b>: QQQ reclaimed and closed the week out well on Friday, recovering from Thursday\u2019s jitters. To me, QQQ looks headed one way, and that\u2019s toward a breakout to new highs. As is my style of trading, though, I\u2019m more inclined to buy near\/through a breakout than predict and position too much\u2026 so I am still waiting on further confirmation. I\u2019d definitely look to position long if we took out the prior week\u2019s high, which is just 35c away from its ATH. Through that level, and with a strong close, I\u2019d look to add for the breakout.<\/span><\/p>\n

LITE<\/b>: There\u2019s nothing to do here just yet, but after multiple failed attempts through 1k, I think many have likely given up or forgotten about it. The setup still remains valid, and the structure hasn\u2019t broken. The stock\u2019s doing a great job building above its short-term SMAs, near the 1k inflection point. I\u2019ll continue to monitor this from a distance, and key in if it trades closer to the breakout point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GLND<\/b>: Impressive liquidity trap played out on Thursday, which was a huge missed opportunity on my end. That was a textbook liquidity trap breakout. Now, shifting gears, though – I\u2019d be interested on the short side if the stock pushes back toward 2-day VWAP \/ 5.8 – 6+ and stuff \/ fails to follow through for a short. Given its character, I\u2019d be inclined to cover close to half on the first move lower, with a HOD stop on the rest, and see if it can hold below VWAP before potentially adding back size. Of course, if it reclaims 6+ and bases\/churns, there\u2019s absolutely no need to fight it on the short side. Will be keeping an eye on what GRML is doing, too.<\/span><\/p>\n

Breadth Has Been Awful, 2 Areas I\u2019m Watching For Relief:<\/b><\/p>\n

Small-Caps (TNA \/ IWM)<\/b> – Does breadth keep weakening, or do we see a QQQ breakout lift other sectors with it, or do we see healthy rotation into short-term lagging corners of the market? If that\u2019s the case, and we see some rotation enter the fray, I\u2019d look at IWM above Friday\u2019s high and its 10-day SMA for a long entry against the LOD.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Utilities (XLU)<\/b> – RSI is near 24, and XLU looks like it may have put in a short-term level to trade against on Friday. If we pull back, reclaim, and confirm a higher low, I\u2019ll look to go long for a bounce trade. If this simply holds near lows, there\u2019s no trade for me. I need to see a change of character and flows come back into XLU.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
