{"id":56686,"date":"2023-11-06T10:29:55","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T15:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/?p=56686"},"modified":"2023-11-06T10:34:11","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T15:34:11","slug":"the-super-consistent-trader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/the-super-consistent-trader","title":{"rendered":"The Super Consistent Trader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-50779\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/new-office.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"743\" height=\"732\" srcset=\"\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/new-office.png 743w, \/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/new-office-300x296.png 300w, \/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/new-office-610x601.png 610w, \/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/new-office-100x99.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 743px) 100vw, 743px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We noticed one developing trader show a real ability to make money but also a lack of consistency and volatility in his trading.\u00a0 This was holding him back as a trader.\u00a0 We challenged him to focus on being more consistent, a Super Consistent Trader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=82WCGwTGLHM&amp;t=216s&amp;ab_channel=SMBCapital\">How to Become a Consistently Profitable Trader (like you deserve to be)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wrote the promising trader a quick note&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You show a real ability to make money.\u00a0 That is a terrific sign of potential.\u00a0 We do not see this with many traders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But you also show a lack of consistency and volatility in your trading results.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you can think seriously and thoughtfully about how to remove the lack of consistency and volatility from your trading, you can do this.\u00a0 For example, ask yourself these five questions to help improve your consistency.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What trades cause too much inconsistency and volatility?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does a type of trading cause this?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does the time of day cause this?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you need guardrails on overtrading and tilt trading?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What best practices bring consistency?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And these are easy words to write, but you must study your trading and yourself to focus on being consistent and less volatile.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The positive PNL is there on some solid trades.\u00a0 But how do we keep more of that?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Said another way, what can you do to be a Super Consistent Trader? (end)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The promising developing trader responded with 5 solid ideas to help him become more consistent.\u00a0 Those ideas are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. Max ticker loss of $750.\u00a0 If more than one attempt might be necessary, size accordingly.\u00a0 If adding to a trade, recalculate the risk.\u00a0 Ask my trading partner to help hold me accountable by calling me out if I go over.<\/p>\n<p>2. If up a stop, implement a 50% Give Back Rule.<\/p>\n<p>3. The goal of a green week gets a $250 risk bump until back to the original risk of $2500 while improving on consistency.\u00a0 Then, resume the &#8220;2 stops in 2 weeks&#8221; timeframe for accelerated, longer-term growth. Sizing remains the same until back to breakeven, then increase size 10% each week.<\/p>\n<p>4. Stay move2move for the sake of consistency, and do not skew EV by taking oversized losses.<\/p>\n<p>5. Risk Allocation &#8211; 30-40% in A setups, 10-20% in B setups, and anything less 5-10%.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I offered one more idea for the trader to consider in a response.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I would add one more thing&#8230;.<\/span><b>work on better entries.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kLfCbpm14rw&amp;t=11s&amp;ab_channel=SMBCapital\">How to Time Exact Entries &amp; Exits (Bar-By-Bar Analysis)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having mentored top traders, they often conclude that their best trades work right away.\u00a0 It is not always true that more risk means more profits.\u00a0 From my seat, a more effective way to make more and be more consistent is to hyper-focus on better risk\/reward entries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With your best trades, review how you could have entered better and improved your risk\/reward.\u00a0 Review the best signal for entry.
