All of your work during an entire month not paying dividends.\u00a0 That is a terrible feeling for a trader.\u00a0 This can all be avoided.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VzfBlY7SOI4&amp;ab_channel=SMBCapital\">What No One Tells You About How To Become An Elite Trader (Surprisingly)<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During one team meeting, a junior trader summarized his month of underperformance.\u00a0 I contributed, &#8220;Can I jump in here?\u00a0 For an active trader, 3 days of trading underperformance is time for a checkup.&#8221;\u00a0 You might ask:<\/p>\n<p>Am I trading the right stocks?<\/p>\n<p>Am I taking the setups in my PlayBook?<\/p>\n<p>Should I focus on different setups in my PlayBook for this month?<\/p>\n<p>Has the market changed so that I need to adjust my trading?<\/p>\n<p>Am I overtrading?<\/p>\n<p>Think about it.\u00a0 If you perform a checkup on your trading after every 3 days of underperformance, and there are an average of 21 trading days in a month, then this gives you 7 chances to fix your trading underperformance.\u00a0 7 chances!\u00a0 Most underperforming traders give themselves zero chances before the end of the month to fix their trading and then disappointedly acknowledge their poor trading end of month.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sNG2L6qOg48&amp;t=2007s&amp;ab_channel=SMBCapital\">How to Conduct a Professional Review of Your Trading<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During our last team meeting, one trader announced 4 days of poor trading warranted a checkup.\u00a0 There is no magic number, however there does need to be a time period for your trading when you implement a checkup.\u00a0 And for swing traders, this trading might be longer than for active traders.<\/p>\n<p>Does it make sense to spend all that time and effort trading for an entire month and not give yourself several chances to fix your poor trading, during a poor trading month?<\/p>\n<p>What if your favorite baseball player went an entire month not hitting and you learned he did not make any adjustments?<\/p>\n<p>What if you favorite NBA player went an entire month shooting poorly and you learned he did not make any changes?<\/p>\n<p>You would think your favorite player is unprofessional.\u00a0 You might think he doesn&#8217;t care.\u00a0 That player might not remain your favorite player.<\/p>\n<p>Do not be that trader who sits in their monthly review and laments an entire month of poor trading.\u00a0 You are better than that!\u00a0 You have chances to turn that period of poor trading around.\u00a0 Be the trader who instead feels proud of a solid trading month, who overcame a few short periods of poor trading.\u00a0 Be that trader.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/smb-disclosures?inf_contact_key=86e68ad95cfd2835f919c6dd5a8f153af651f238aa2edbb9c8b7cff03e0b16a0\">Important disclosures<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mike Bellafiore is the Co-Founder of SMB Capital, a proprietary trading desk, and SMB Training, which provides\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tradingworkshop.com\/\">trading education<\/a>\u00a0in stocks, options, and futures.
