{"id":44807,"date":"2017-01-19T10:58:55","date_gmt":"2017-01-19T15:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/?p=44807"},"modified":"2017-01-19T11:44:22","modified_gmt":"2017-01-19T16:44:22","slug":"what-would-you-tell-your-younger-trader-self","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/what-would-you-tell-your-younger-trader-self","title":{"rendered":"What would you tell your younger trader self?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0Drlq_yRFug?rel=0&amp;controls=0&amp;showinfo=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As I write, I am headed to Austin, Texas to train the newest class for our partners at The Kershner Trading Group. \u00a0We train the new traders down there as a part of our JV (joint venture) with KTG.<\/p>\n<p>I will be training these new traders using The SMB Foundation, Part I of three parts of our training.<\/p>\n<p>Today in our conference room, I surveyed some of the more experienced traders at our desk on what they would tell their younger trader self if they began Foundation again. \u00a07 ideas blossomed. \u00a0Let&#8217;s share them here to give you thoughts on how to improve your trading, whether new, developing or even experienced.<\/p>\n<p><b>7 tips to my younger trader self<\/b><\/p>\n<p>1. Patience. \u00a0It takes time to become good. \u00a0As ambitious and hungry as you may be, the trading Gods demand time before competence.<\/p>\n<p>2. Focus more on Reading the Tape. \u00a0One astute former Foundation trainee remarked he wished he had spent more time learning to Read the Tape. \u00a0This trader felt it is so important for what we do as short term traders. \u00a0It would have sped up his learning curve if he would have focused more on it.<\/p>\n<p>On our desk we focus on Reading the Tape during Foundation, with videos created inside the program, a daily mentoring session where we watch film together, and individual traders including film review into their daily routine for improvement.<\/p>\n<p>3. Be a spounge. \u00a0The best traders sound like me. \u00a0They use the same vocabulary to describe trading principles. \u00a0This is not because I have all the answers. \u00a0It is because these traders are excellent listeners. \u00a0This helped them grown faster and better as traders.<\/p>\n<p>4. Learn from other trainees on the prop desk. \u00a0You will learn more from trainees training with you than partners and teachers. \u00a0Forge those relationships. \u00a0Make a habit of talking trading with the younger traders on the desk.<\/p>\n<p>5. Embrace technology. \u00a0One developing trader made the point that he thought learning technology was a waste when he started because he was just learning how to trade. \u00a0But later he recognized he needed these skills when his discretionary skill level increased.<\/p>\n<p>6. Trust the process. \u00a0You are not going to be good for two years. \u00a0Complete your daily routine of improvement daily. \u00a0Win each trading day! \u00a0Three and five years later that is what puts you in position to be a 7-figure trader. \u00a0Prior firm trader data supports this so just trust the process.<\/p>\n<p>7.
