{"id":42939,"date":"2016-01-06T13:55:25","date_gmt":"2016-01-06T18:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/?p=42939"},"modified":"2021-05-06T16:35:35","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T20:35:35","slug":"the-object-in-trading-is-to-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/the-object-in-trading-is-to-win","title":{"rendered":"The object in trading is to win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6QRWcxw8XAI\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I remember the interview.\u00a0 I meet hundreds of trading candidates every year during our firm\u2019s hiring process.\u00a0 You remember the best ones.\u00a0 He was one of the best.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There was a clarity of thought.<\/li>\n<li>There was a focus.<\/li>\n<li>There was a calmness.<\/li>\n<li>There was speed in his processing.<\/li>\n<li>There was a demonstrable interest in trading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I told him on the spot, he should pursue trading.\u00a0 I rarely do this.<\/p>\n<p>We extended an invitation.\u00a0 He accepted.<\/p>\n<p>I sat him down recently and encouraged him to momentum trade because of his unusual skill set.\u00a0 Momentum trading is a style where you bet on the next move of a stock, market or ETF.\u00a0 It\u2019s short term trading inside of short term trading.<\/p>\n<p>He said something so interesting that I know many of you struggle with as well.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI feel like I have to capture the whole move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who told him that?\u00a0 Who told you that?\u00a0 No&#8230;. you&#8230;&#8230; don\u2019t.\u00a0 1000 shares held for ten points is the same as momentum trading 20k shares for 50c.\u00a0 And for some the later is much easier.\u00a0 In fact, some of the best traders, seven figure traders, are momentum traders.<\/p>\n<p>There seems to be some specious stigma for not holding for the whole move, or the \u201creal move\u201d, said another way.\u00a0 Being big for the meat of move works quite nicely for some.<\/p>\n<p>Your job is to match your talents with a trading style best for you.\u00a0 Not to be bogged down in myth about how you have to trade to make big money.<\/p>\n<p>The object in trading is to win (HT @steenbab).
