{"id":21453,"date":"2012-10-15T11:30:17","date_gmt":"2012-10-15T15:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/?p=21453"},"modified":"2012-10-15T12:11:01","modified_gmt":"2012-10-15T16:11:01","slug":"bon-voyage-to-paris-to-become-a-better-trader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smbtraining.com\/blog\/bon-voyage-to-paris-to-become-a-better-trader","title":{"rendered":"Bon voyage to Paris to become a better trader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bojour.\u00a0\u00a0 I am flying through some nasty turbulence from southern France to Paris to catch my connecting flight back to NYC.\u00a0 I land, drop off our bags and my wife, grab a few hours of sleep and then head back to the airport for a flight to Toronto.\u00a0 I am the chairman and a presenter at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terrapinn.com\/2012\/quant-invest-canada\/programme-day-one-tuesday-october-16.stm\">Quant Invest Canada 2012<\/a> on 10\/16.\u00a0 I have spent the past week in Paris and the south of France experiencing and learning. \u00a0I leave a better trader without making one trade. \u00a0 How is that possible?<\/p>\n<p>My wife and I were invited to a chateau wedding in the south of France this weekend.\u00a0 This was the second marriage for the bride and groom.\u00a0 Not in that they were previously married to different people.\u00a0 They had already married in Big Sur with friends but wanted to celebrate their nuptials with their European friends, family and those who could not attend their first wedding.\u00a0 At first I found this a bit narcissistic but who am I to stand in the way of a trip to Paris and the south of France with my wife.\u00a0 I am so happy we went.\u00a0 I learned a great lesson from the groom that can help our trading.\u00a0 And with my travels I learned more about the world, which I will use as a trader, author and partner.<\/p>\n<p>During the groom\u2019s address he wished the wedding guests a weekend of memories.\u00a0 What a wonderful gift.\u00a0 As traders we fill our days competing for a greater P&amp;L.\u00a0 We smash our keyboards when things go poorly.\u00a0 We lose sleep if underperforming.\u00a0 We stress about making more.\u00a0 Does any of that help your P&amp;L?<\/p>\n<p>Your success as a trader is determined by your skill.\u00a0 Building skill takes screen time and practice.\u00a0 This helps us build intuition, that subconscience voice that steers your trading. \u00a0When we combine our intuition with our creativity and our talents we become our best trader.\u00a0\u00a0 But to be creative we must have life experiences that fuel our imaginative innovations.\u00a0 As traders there is more than one way to trade a bullish consolidation pattern.\u00a0 Trading it as well as we can requires that we are hitting on all cylinders with our high level thinking.\u00a0 And to obtain that high level thinking and creativity to build that superior trade that makes the most sense to us, we can tap into knowledge from life experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Our minds are a wondrous gift.\u00a0 Our best thoughts come at times unplanned or from inspiration not understood. \u00a0I created the SMB PlayBook 1500 miles from our trading floor. \u00a0Experiencing different cultures and well experiences plants seeds that can grow into your next best trading set up or trading improvement.<\/p>\n<p>(Oh they are passing out the chocolate cookies now on Air France.\u00a0 Brilliant.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thereformedbroker.com\/\">Josh Brown<\/a> tweeted a famous financier quotation that \u00a0he\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0know one successful person who did not read all the time.\u00a0 I would add to that important quote of reading a ton&#8230;&#8230;
